My name is Polina, I teach math for international and English language programs (IB HL, A-level math, IGCSE&GCSE math, SAT, etc.). Lessons can be conducted entirely in English, or in "mixed" (terms in English, the rest in Russian) at your choice. It depends on how you feel more comfortable and understandable, because the ultimate goal is to master the material and pass the exam.
I speak English fluently (American English, although I am not a native speaker). My fluency in English dates back to 2000, when I was a participant of the FLEX (Future Leaders Exchange Program): I lived and studied in the USA for a year.
My teaching experience dates back to 2007. In 2007, I graduated from university and started working as a math teacher (in English) in an IB-certified school, and a couple of years later as an international examiner in the International Baccalaureate system (checking IB math coursework and exams).
I started doing distance learning long before it became pandemic mainstream. In 2014, I went on maternity leave and I started to be approached (at first through word of mouth) by kids studying at international schools for qualified help with math. Quite quickly, remote tutoring became my main job. I have accumulated a lot of experience in online tutoring, and I know how to do it well.
Although I continue to work partly face-to-face (I am currently a university lecturer in scientific English and a member of the academy of sciences), I am predominantly, as they would say in English, an independent educator. I like working in education. Why?
Well, first of all, the people. I teach kids from different countries, I communicate with them and with my former students who live, study and work all over the world, I communicate with fellow tutors and teachers. The academic, student atmosphere, the atmosphere of learning, constantly fills my life. It is very inspiring, motivating, energizing, and I, in turn, channel this flow back to my students.
Secondly, it is a pleasure to observe moments of insight, when the "fog clears" and the student begins to understand what used to be abracadabra for him, to observe how a person becomes more and more confident in himself and his abilities, how complex things become accessible.
I invite you to learn under my guidance and accompaniment!
